The Celtic Roundhouse
Visitors to the Primrose Earth Awareness Trust site at Felindre
can now see a re-creation of a Celtic roundhouse. The building uses ancient
construction methods which have been shown to be still useful in today's
world as well as being environmentally friendly. It is topped with a traditional
thatched roof.
Construction began in August with the involvement of young
volunteers from the United Nations Association's UNA Camp scheme, who
came from Italy, Spain, Ukraine, Slovakia, Poland, Germany, and Korea
to take part in the project. The project was then completed by trust staff
with the help of master thatcher Alan Jones, from Pembrokeshire. The photos
below show the various stages of work.

Preview of unique healthy food and garden project
Primrose Earth Awareness Trust is inviting the public to preview tours
of a fascinating new attraction that aims to show how plants can help
us be healthier and how we can grow them in a more sustainable way.
The Trust is creating a linked series of gardens and displays on a one-acre
site at its base in the village of Felindre, between Hay-on-Wye and Talgarth.
From Saturday 28 May to Sunday 5 June it is opening for previews to coincide
with World Environment Day, on Sunday 5 June, and with the Hay Literary
Festival.
Vistors will be able to see:
- How they can grow their own healthy food
- The surprising range of plants that have been used as medicines to
promote human health
- "Come to your senses" - a planted area where you can get
in touch with plants through your senses
- Structures made from naturally-sourced sustainable materials, including
the earth underfoot
- A newly planted forest garden - using intriguing agroforestry techniques
to make a low maintenance, highly productive garden
There will also be access to the market garden and mature forest garden
of neighbouring Primrose Farm to see sustainable fruit and vegetable production
